Postseason Awards announced for men’s soccer

Lone Star Conference champion Midwestern State led all teams with nine players selected to the All-LSC first team as the 2010 men's soccer awards were announced on Wednesday.

   On the first team for the Mustangs were Ryan Spence, Dean Lovegrove, David Freeland, Paulo Teixeira, Sam Broadbent and Raul Herrera, while Tex McCullough, Bryce Taylor and Nathan Fitzgerald were named to the second team. MSU also picked up two individual accolades as Spence, a junior back, was named Defensive Player of the Year and head coach Doug Elder earned co-Coach of the Year honors for the third consecutive year.

   Incarnate Word had three claim special awards with first-teamers Callum Riley and James Nero named Offensive Player of the Year and Freshman of the Year, respectively, while John Smith was tabbed co-Coach of the Year.

   Rounding out the All-Conference first team were UIW’s Jesus Cortez, West Texas A&M’s Nicki Nielsen, Ben Everson and Dominic Furness and Eastern New Mexico’s Emerson Rodrigues and Andy Wilkinson.
