ENMU, MSU capture LSC Cross Country titles

Eastern New Mexico won the men’s title for the first time and Midwestern State took home the women’s crown for the fourth consecutive year at the Lone Star Conference Cross Country Championships held Saturday in San Angelo, Texas.

      ENMU ended Abilene Christian’s streak of 20 straight championships in the men’s eight-kilometer race, while MSU topped the field in the women’s six-kilometer course.

      The Greyhounds posted a team score of 28 with five of the top ten runners to earn the title after a runner-up finish in 2010. Isaiah Samoei was the individual medalist with a time of 24:25 to lead ENMU. Tallam Kipruto (3rd, 25:00), Tyler Saiz (6th, 25:28), Mohamed Noor (8th, 25:36) and Jacob Lozano (10th,25:50) added to the first-place effort.

      ACU finished second with 68 points, with Texas A&M-Commerce third with 99.

      Texas A&M-Kingsville’s Kiya Dandena placed second (24:51), Cameron’s Hillary Kirwa fourth (25:19) and the Wildcats Fab Wessel-Terharn was fifth (25:26).

      On the women’s side, Brissia Montalvo claimed individual medalist honors with a time of 21:40 to lead the Mustangs. Helping the MSU score was Ashley Flores (6th, 22:26), Janel Campbell (8th, 22:30) and Michelle Krezonoski (12th, 22:41).

      The Mustangs prevailed with 43 points, followed by West Texas A&M (87) and Angelo State (103).

      ACU’s Chloe Susset and Alyse Goldsmith placed second (21:51) and third (22:09), respectively, with ASU’s Emeline Crutcher fourth (22:21) and Incarnate Word’s Amanda Bishop fifth (22:24).

      The top 15 finishers in each race earned All-LSC acclaim.
