Women’s Soccer Championship: Carpenter leads Wildcats to title game

Andrea Carpenter scored her 13th and 14th goals of the season as Abilene Christian topped Texas A&M-Commerce 2-0 in the semifinals of the Lone Star Conference Women’s Soccer Championship.

The Wildcats victory sets up a rematch of the 2010 championship game against Midwestern State, which ACU won 2-0 in Wichita Falls, Texas. Kickoff is set for Sunday at 1 p.m.

Carpenter, the two-time Offensive Player of the Year and league leader in points and goals, recorded the eventual game-winner in the 53rd minute off a Lexi Stirling corner kick. The sophomore extended the Wildcat advantage at the 78:11 mark with a rebound effort which was assisted by Julie Coppedge.

ACU out shot A&M-C 21-13, with a 6-4 advantage in corner kicks. Elliott London picked up the win in goal for the Wildcats with two saves, while the Lions Randi Hafele took the loss with a seven-save effort.
