Midwestern State wins LSC Women’s Soccer Championship

Midwestern State came from behind with back-to-back goals late in the second half to hand Abilene Christian its first loss of the season and claim the 2011 Lone Star Conference Women’s Soccer Championship with a 2-1 victory in Sunday’s final.

The Mustangs win marked their third LSC title after winning the league crown in 1996 and 1998. The title game was a rematch of the 2010 final, which ACU won 2-0.

The Wildcats scored first as Andrea Carpenter found the back of the net in the 49th minute for her 15th goal of the season.

MSU scored the equalizer at the 75:05 mark as Kelsey Hill, who earned Most Valuable Player honors,  headed in a Heidi Avila crossing pass for her 11th goal of the year.

Just over three minutes later, the Mustangs Mickey Brown one-timed the game-winning goal off a cross by Lindsay Pritchard.

MSU (13-5-2) avenged two regular season losses to ACU (18-1-1) to earn the league’s automatic qualification to the NCAA Regional Tournament. The pairings will be announced tomorrow, Monday, November 7 on NCAA.com at 6 p.m.
