ACU’s Mongin tops women’s tennis all-conference team

Abilene Christian’s Julia Mongin was named Lone Star Conference Women’s Tennis Player of the Year as the annual awards were announced by league officials on Thursday.

Mongin was selected as the women’s top player for the second consecutive year, while also earning All-LSC honors for her singles and doubles play.

The all-conference honors were voted upon by the head coaches at each LSC member institution for the fifth time in 2012. Previously, the results of the LSC Individual Championships Tournament determined the team.

Tarleton State’s Melanie Barnes was tabbed Sportsmanship Player of the Year, while the TexAnns Karla Martinez earned Newcomer of the Year honors. ACU’s Brittney Reed collected Freshman of the Year acclaim and the Wildcats Hutton Jones was named Coach of the Year for the second straight year.

A total of 21 student-athletes from six member institutions were recognized through the LSC’s all-conference program.
