Three Lone Star Conference women’s soccer standouts were tabbed for 2012 preseason honors league officials announced Tuesday.
      Abilene Christian’s Andrea Carpenter was tabbed Offensive Player of the Year, while Midwestern State picked up two of the awards with Defensive Player of the Year Hanna Staley and Goalkeeper of the Year Mallory Whitworth.
      All three were repeat selections and the clear choices in a vote of LSC head coaches and sports information directors, plus various media representatives from throughout the region.
      Carpenter, a junior forward from Amarillo, Texas, finished second in all of Division II with eight game-winning goals, while her 16 goals and 35 points ranked among the nation's top-20. In addition to being named All-America and all-region, she was voted the Daktronics South Central Region and LSC Player of the Year for a second straight year.
      Staley, a senior defender from Austin, Texas, helped MSU to nine shutouts while limiting the opposition to a 0.70 goals against average this season while helping the team to its first LSC championship since 1998.  A two-time LSC Defensive Player of the Year, she earned Daktronics second-team All-America accolades last season.
      Whitworth, a senior goalie from McKinney, Texas, earned All-LSC second-team honors after notching six shutouts and allowing a 0.72 goals against average.
      The trio will lead their respective teams onto the pitch in late August as the 2012 season begins.  The LSC has eight teams ready to play this fall, with each team playing a 14-game conference schedule as part of its regular season slate.
