WTAMU sweeps LSC Cross Country titles

West Texas A&M won both the men’s and women’s titles at the Lone Star Conference Cross Country Championships held Saturday in Blackwater Draw, N.M.  The Buffs captured the men’s championship for the first time ever, while the Lady Buffs won their second straight crown on the women’s side.

      WT triumphed in the women’s six-kilometer event with 35 points including five runners in the top 11.  Mireia Guarner led the Lady Buffs in third place with a time of 22:29, followed by Haley Sparks (22:39), Amber Moore (22:54), Emma Love (23:00) and Carley Glass (23:08).

      Tarleton State was second with 55 points, followed by Midwestern State (77).  The TexAnns Lindsey Hinton was the individual medalist in 22:14, with her teammate Aly Coughlin finishing in second place (22:22).

      WT prevailed in the men’s eight-kilometer race with a team score of 22 points including five top-10 runners.  Dylan Doss paced the Buffs effort with a first place finish in 25:18.  Anthony Baumal (25:30), Steve Lagat (25:49), Lucas Marquez (25:58), and Baptiste Moreu (26:05) completed the WT victory.

      Eastern New Mexico finished second with 67 points, while A&M-Commerce was third with (88).

      The top 15 finishers in each race earned All-LSC runner acclaim.
