LSC announces cross country honors

The Lone Star Conference recognized 30 student-athletes and two head coaches as league officials announced the annual cross country all-conference honors.

The announcement comes following the LSC Cross Country Championships on October 26. West Texas A&M captured its first-ever men’s title and the Lady Buffs won their second straight crown on the women's side.

All-conference honors are given to those runners who finish among the top 15 individually at the conference meet, while additional awards are presented for Coach, Newcomer and Freshman of the Year on both the men’s and women’s side.

WT’s Darren Flowers earned men’s coach of the year honors, while Tarleton State’s Pat Ponder was the women’s coach of the year.

Newcomer of the Year acclaim went to WT’s Anthony Baumal and TSU’s Aly Coughlin.  The Buffs Steve Lagat and TexAnns Audrey Shelton claimed Freshman of the Year honors.

The coaching honors were selected by a vote of all the LSC head coaches, while the newcomer and freshman awards went to the highest finishers at the league championships.

WT’s Dylan Doss was the individual medalist to headline the all-conference list.  He was joined by teammates Baumal, Lagat, Lucas Marquez, Baptiste Moreu, Cameron Gifford, and Brett Villarreal.

Kaspers Briska, Mikey Davila, and Trevor Merhege represented the runner-up Greyhounds.  A&M-Commerce was third due to the efforts of All-LSC performers Dorian McCradic and Luis Romero.  Recognition also went to Cameron’s Thomas Toth, TSU’s Dylan Willett, and Angelo State’s Jamin Goecker.

On the women’s side, TSU’s Lindsey Hinton claimed the women’s individual title, with teammates Aly Coughlin, Audrey Shelton, and Katelin Huckabee earning All-LSC honors as well.

WT finished first with Mireia Guarner, Haley Sparks, Amber Moore, Emma Love, Carley Glass, and Michaela Johnson leading the squad, while Midwestern State was third with top-15 performers Ashley Flores and Janel Campbell.  ASU’s Jaylen Rodgers and ENMU’s Bayleigh Baker and Amber Saiz were also on the All-LSC list.
