Texas A&M-Commerce forward Brionna Minde repeated as the Lone Star Conference Academic Player of the Year as conference officials announced the women’s soccer academic awards during the LSC Championship banquet on Thursday.
Minde, a health promotion major, started 16 of the 17 for the Lions ranking second in points (12) and assists (6). The senior is a three-time LSC All-Academic team selection.
Joining Minde on the 12-member team are players from A&M-Commerce, West Texas A&M, Angelo State, Texas Woman’s, and Midwestern State.
The All-Academic team is chosen by the league’s sports information directors, who select players on the basis of both athletic and academic achievement. To be eligible for LSC academic honors, student-athletes must have played in at least 50 percent of team’s contests, reached sophomore athletic and academic standing (true freshmen and redshirt freshmen are not eligible), completed at least one full academic year at the nominating institution, and have a minimum 3.30 cumulative grade point average based on the 4.0 system for their entire collegiate career.
A&M-C was represented on the team by Minde, Callie Annett, Laura Heron, and Cadie Annett, while WT added Berklee Watson, Kassandra Thetford, and Emily Krenek. ASU’s Jordan Benfield and Trisha Killen, MSU’s Kallie Essary and Emily Saville, and TWU’s Mariel Parra rounded out the team.
Watson, Benfield, and Callie Annett joined Minde as repeat selections to the squad.
