Texas A&M-Commerce senior Andrew Davis was named Academic Player of the Year to headline the Lone Star Conference All-Academic Men’s Basketball Team, that was announced Tuesday by league officials at the LSC Awards Banquet in Allen, Texas.
Davis, who earned top academic acclaim for the second straight year, is among the league leaders in field goal percentage (.542) and rebounding (7.1). The finance major from Richardson, Texas, was recently recognized as a first team Capital One Academic All-American as well.
To be eligible for LSC academic honors, student-athletes must have reached sophomore status and carry at least a 3.30 grade point average. The All-Academic Team is selected from the list of academically qualified players, with the league’s sports information directors voting on the basis of both academic and athletic achievement.
Incarnate Word’s Dionelle Rucker and Eastern New Mexico’s Kyle Lantz joined Davis on the All-Academic Team.
