Men’s Basketball postseason awards announced

Cameron’s Craig Foster was named Player of the Year to have top billing on the Lone Star Conference men’s basketball postseason awards announced Tuesday by league officials.

The awards announcement came Tuesday night at a pre-championship banquet in Allen, Texas, where the LSC Basketball Championship tournament is set to begin on Wednesday.  First-round games will be played Wednesday, March 6, and Thursday, March 7, with the semifinals set for Friday, March 8. Both the women’s and men’s championship games are on Saturday, March 9.
Foster leads the league in assists with 5.9 per game, is second in three-pointers made (2.4), and is fourth in scoring (16.3).

Joining Foster on the first team was MSU’s Corbin Thomas, Incarnate Word’s Dionelle Rucker, Chuck Guy of Tarleton State, and Eastern New Mexico’s Rodney Blackmon.

Other special recognition publicized Tuesday included defensive player, newcomer, freshman and coach of the year.

The top defensive award was captured by Tarleton’s Jon Cathey-Macklin, while Newcomer of the Year was split among Abilene Christian’s Eric Lawton, ENMU’s Blackmon, and MSU’s Thomas.  Angelo State’s Jovan Austin and UIW’s Kyle Hittle shared Freshman of the Year honors.  Cameron’s Wade Alexander was named Coach of the Year.

Overall, 15 student-athletes were recognized by the all-conference program.  The awards are voted upon by the league coaches.
