Abilene Christian’s Alex Carpenter earned his fourth straight Lone Star Conference Player of the Year award, while Tarleton State’s Isabel Jimenez-Perea claimed top billing on the women’s side Sunday night as the league’s annual postseason golf awards were announced at the championships banquet.
League officials announced the all-conference teams and individual awards at the banquet, held in conjunction with the LSC Championships at The Golf Club at Champions Circle in Fort Worth, Texas.
Carpenter, who was a unanimous choice, won four consecutive tournaments this spring and five events overall during his senior season. A three-time NCAA Division II all-America selection, he has won 20 of 48 tournaments during his four-year career including the LSC titles in 2010 and 2012. Carpenter is believed to hold the NCAA career record for individual collegiate wins, having surpassed the previous record of 16 set by Phil Mickelson from 1989-92.
Jimenez-Perea, who also earned Freshman of the Year acclaim, captured three tournament titles and posted seven top-10 finishes this season.
Cameron’s Cullen Stahl picked up Freshman of Year honors, while the Aggies Jerry Hrnciar was named Coach of the Year for the men.
On the women’s side, Tarleton’s Jerry Doyle and Midwestern State’s Jeff Ray were tabbed co-Coaches of the Year.
Joining Carpenter on the men’s first team All-LSC was Wildcat teammate Corbin Renner, CU’s Trey Lawson and Austin Weaver, and MSU’s Derek Oland.
Jimenez-Perea led the women’s first team All-LSC which also included TexAnn teammate Jessica Pickwick, Incarnate Word’s Flower Castillo, MSU’S Taylor Klutts, and West Texas A&M’s Glory Jangthongsiri.
A total of 10 more players were named to the second team for both men and women, while another three men’s and four women’s players were recognized as honorable mention All-LSC selections. The awards are voted upon by the league coaches.
