LSC announces cross country honors

The Lone Star Conference recognized 31 student-athletes and two head coaches as league officials announced the annual cross country all-conference honors.

The announcement comes following the LSC Cross Country Championships on November 8. West Texas A&M captured its second straight men’s title and Midwestern State won their fifth crown on the women's side.

All-conference honors are given to those runners who finish among the top 15 individually at the conference meet, while additional awards are presented for Coach, Newcomer and Freshman of the Year on both the men’s and women’s side.

WT’s Darren Flowers earned men’s coach of the year honors for the third consecutive year, while the Lady Buffs Kimberly Dudley was named the women’s coach of the year.

Newcomer of the Year acclaim went to the Buffs Armando Rueda and Eastern New Mexico’s Klaudia Szych.  The Buffs Geoffrey Kipchumba and Lady Buffs Brittany Mitchell claimed Freshman of the Year honors.

The coaching honors were selected by a vote of all the LSC head coaches, while the newcomer and freshman awards went to the highest finishers at the league championships.

Cameron’s Thomas Toth was the individual medalist to headline the all-conference list.  He was joined by teammate Methuselah Lagat.

Brett Villarreal, Kipchumba, Steve Lagat, Armando Rueda, Baptiste Moreu, Cameron Gifford, and Zach Daniel represented the champion Buffs.

The runner-up Greyhounds had All-LSC performers Kevin Roa and Jacob Lozano.  Tarleton State finished third behind the efforts of Dylan Wilett and Steven Rushing, while Texas A&M-Commerce was fourth with Luis Romero and Dorian McCradic on the All-LSC list.

On the women’s side, WT’s Emma Love claimed the women’s individual title, with teammates Michaela Johnson, Brittany Mitchell, and Lauren Laisure earning All-LSC honors as well.

MSU finished first with Gabby Ruiz, Michelle Krezonoski, Kim Krezonoski, and Brittany Adams leading the squad, while ENMU was third with top-15 performers Amber Saiz, Sabrina Huelga, and Beth Blind.  Angelo State’s Annifer Flores and Candida Chairez, TSU’s Tylo Farrar, and A&M-C’s Terra Truitt rounded out the All-LSC list.
