Women’s Tennis academic awards announced

Tarleton State’s Ivana Zecevic was named Women’s Tennis Academic Player of the Year to headline the Lone Star Conference tennis academic awards announced Thursday by league officials.

Zecevic earned top billing for her success on the court and in the classroom.  The political science major from The Netherlands, is 7-6 in No. 2 singles, including two wins over regionally ranked foes and one win in one attempt against a nationally ranked opponent. She is also 9-7 in doubles, working with a pair of different partners.

She was joined on the team by fellow TexAnn Alicia Perez, Cameron’s Florencia Tornero, Midwestern State’s Kayla Casey and Lauren Pineda, and Texas A&M-Kingsville’s Mariaxi Herrera.

Perez was honored for the second straight year.

To be eligible for LSC academic honors, student-athletes must carry at least a 3.30 grade point average and have reached sophomore status both athletically and academically. The Academic Player of Year award and All-Academic Team are selected from the list of academically qualified players, with the league's sports information directors voting on the basis of both academic and athletic achievement.
