No. 16 Texans rush past No. 22 West Texas A&M in season opener

After weeks of waiting, No. 16 Tarleton State did not disappoint in the season opener by heading to Kimbrough Memorial Stadium and defeating No. 22 West Texas A&M 31-27 Saturday night.
 
This is Tarleton's first win in Canyon since 2004 and the second straight win over the Buffs after rallying back to defeat WT in Stephenville by the same score last season. Over the last six quarters dating back to last season, Tarleton has outscored the Buffs 59-27.
 
This is also the first time Tarleton State has beaten a top-25 ranked opponent in a true road game since beating then-No. 13 Texas A&M-Kingsville in the first round of the 2009 NCAA playoffs...Complete Release
 
 
Rams Shine in 38-6 Win over Western State in LeGrand Stadium at 1st Community Credit Union Field Debut

Taylor, Mustangs blow past Missouri S&T in opener, 40-23
 
Midwestern State's Dante Taylor tied a career high with 128 rushing yards to lead the Mustangs to a season opening 40-23 win over Missouri S&T Saturday night at Memorial Stadium.
 
It was all part of a 517-yard onslaught for MSU which won its first season opener since beating the Miners 41-0 to start the 2011 season. The victory was the 10th straight for the Mustangs on the familiar turf at Memorial Stadium.
 
The Mustangs take on Eastern New Mexico Saturday night at the Lone Star Football Festival at AT&T Stadium in Dallas. Kickoff is set for 8 p.m...Complete Release
 

 
Gridiron Hounds Dominate Home Opener Against Adams State

Sophomore wide receiver Aaron Johnson hauled in a 24-yard touchdown pas to cap an 11-play, 81-yard drive as the Eastern New Mexico University football team (2-0) scored on the opening possession Saturday night's game against Adams State (1-1). The drive took 5:33 off the clock before the Grizzlies managed to touch the ball, which enabled Eastern to set the tone for a 42-14 win at Greyhound Field.
 
The win gave ENMU its first 2-0 start since the 2007 season, which saw the Hounds off to a 4-0 start. Eastern moved to 18-10-1 all-time against Adams State and was the seventh straight win in the series. The Greyhounds are now 10-3-1 at home against the Grizzlies. The contest was part of ENMU Athletics Hall of Honors day and was sponsored by Roosevelt General Hospital...Complete Release


 
@JavelinaFB Stands Tall in 17-14 Defeat over Mavericks

Trey Mitchell jump-started Texas A&M University-Kingsville (1-1) to a 7-3 lead with a 67-yard run on the Javelinas' opening drive and the defense finished with 97 total tackles as Kingsville defeated Colorado Mesa University (1-1), 17-14, on Saturday evening at Javelina Stadium.
 
The defense, highlighted by seniors Henry Greathouse and Trevor Pesek's combined 21 tackles, was locked in all evening, registering six forced fumbles and four quarterback hits. The Javelinas added five sacks for 35 yards and limited the fast paced offense of the Mavericks to 6-of-17 on third-down conversions and 0-of-4 on fourth-down opportunities...Complete Release
 

 
FCS SFA Tops A&M-Commerce 38-17
 
The Lions failed to capitalize on the momentum from last weekend’s record-breaking game against ETBU, dropping their first road game of the season 38-17 to NCAA Division I FCS opponent Stephen F. Austin Saturday night at Home Bryce Stadium.
 
Senior quarterback Tyrik Rollison (27-49, 292 yards, one INT) never managed to find a comfortable rhythm as the SFA defense applied constant pressure, sacking Rollison five times and keeping the Lions signal caller scrambling.
 
Senior running back Joe Bergeron, who finished with 165 all-purpose yards on 16 touches, found some success with a few productive touches, his longest gain of the night coming on 22-yard pitch and catch from Rollison...Complete Release
