Women’s Soccer: TWU’s Larson tops academic awards

Texas Woman’s Gabby Larson was named the Lone Star Conference Academic Player of the Year as conference officials announced the women’s soccer academic awards during the LSC Championship banquet on Wednesday.

Larson, a psychology major, has played in 17 games for the Pioneers with 15 starts.  The junior forward has three goals with one game-winning effort.  She is a two-time LSC All-Academic team selection.

The All-Academic team is chosen by the league’s sports information directors, who select players on the basis of both athletic and academic achievement. To be eligible for LSC academic honors, student-athletes must have played in at least 50 percent of team’s contests, reached sophomore athletic and academic standing (true freshmen and redshirt freshmen are not eligible), completed at least one full academic year at the nominating institution, and have a minimum 3.30 cumulative grade point average based on the 4.0 system for their entire collegiate career.

Joining Larson on the 11-member team was teammate Megan Coppedge.  Angelo State was represented by Tiffany Dang, Haley Mendel, and Kathleen Keoughan, while Texas A&M-Commerce added Laura Heron, Savannah Grasser, and Julia Hernandez.  West Texas A&M’s Lucy Chalgren and Aryn Dourourdian, along with Midwestern State’s Courtney Burnette rounded out the team.

Mendel and Grasser joined Larson as repeat selections to the squad.
