Women’s Soccer: Postseason awards announced

Lone Star Conference Champion Angelo State had seven total selections on the All-LSC women’s soccer team announced Wednesday evening at the championship banquet in San Angelo, Texas.

      ASU had three first-team picks and four second-teamers to take top billing after winning its second league title.  The Rambelles championship season included five individual awards.  Ashley Exford and Shantel Wittke were honored for the second consecutive year as Defensive Player of the Year and Goalkeeper of the Year, respectively.  Haley Mendel was tabbed Offensive Player of the Year, while Demi Tsambasis earned Newcomer of the Year acclaim, and Travis McCorkle was Coach of the Year for the third straight year.

      Midwestern State had six selections including the Freshman of the Year Imani Morlock.

      Texas Woman’s had five, while Texas A&M-Commerce earned four, West Texas A&M three and Eastern New Mexico two.

      The first team consisted of ASU’s Exford, Mendel, and Wittke; A&M-C’s Vicky Back, Jade Bell, and Julia Hernandez; TWU’s Natalia Diaz; WT’s Khadisha Debesette and Karyn Forbes; and MSU’s Morlock and Morgan Hannon.

      Overall, 28 student-athletes were recognized with the all-conference honors program, including at least one player from all six women’s soccer teams in the league.  The all-conference honors were selected by the LSC’s head coaches.
