LSC BASKETBALL CHAMPIONSHIP
The brackets are set for the Lone Star Conference Men’s and Women’s Basketball Championship March 4-7 in Allen, Texas.
The top eight men and women’s teams have advanced to the LSC Championship Tournament and the postseason begins with games on Wednesday, March 4.
West Texas A&M claimed the LSC women’s title with a nearly perfect 15-1 league record. The Lady Buffs picked up their second straight championship and 13th overall.
On the men’s side, Tarleton State won the LSC title with a 12-2 record. The Texans claimed their second straight championship and fourth overall.
Tickets are available through Ticketmaster outlets and Ticketmaster.com, as well as the Allen Event Center box office. Single-session tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for students.
LSC BASKETBALL
The LSC men have a 136-83 overall record so far this season with four teams (TSU, ASU, MSU, A&M-C) eclipsing the 20-win mark. In the NCAA South Central Region, the men’s teams are currently 13-6 combined versus Heartland Conference teams and 8-7 against the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.
The LSC women are 123-111 overall with a pair of 20-win teams (WT, MSU). The women’s squads are currently 13-17 combined against the Heartland, and 6-3 versus RMAC teams, which are the other conferences in the NCAA South Central Region.

PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
MEN’S OFFENSIVE
Miles Gatewood, West Texas A&M University, SR, Guard, Portland, Ore., Westview HS
Gatewood had an outstanding final home game on Saturday during a Senior Day win over rival Eastern New Mexico, 96-86. Gatewood scored 24 points while leading the team in all shooting categories, going an impressive .700 from the field, making a career-high six triples for a .667 shooting percentage, and went .667 as well from the charity stripe, also leading the Buffs. He went on to lead the team in assists with five while adding three rebounds and a steal as well.
MEN’S DEFENSIVE
Nosa Ebomwonyi, Tarleton State University, FR, Guard, Pflugerville, Texas, Pflugerville HS
Ebomwonyi turned in a remarkable defensive performance for the Tarleton State Texans last week to help Tarleton secure the outright Lone Star Conference Championship and No. 1 seed in the LSC Championship Tournament. In addition to grabbing nine rebounds and three steals from the guard position, he starred as a lockdown defender for the Texans. Ebomwonyi drew the assignment of guarding one of the LSC’s top-10 scorers, LaDon Carnegie. The true freshman from Pflugerville held Carnegie, who entered the game averaging 15.9 points per game, scoreless on 0-7 shooting from the floor including 0-6 from beyond the arc. Ebomwonyi and the Texan defense held the Lions, who entered the game No. 2 in the LSC in scoring average, to only 48 points. For the week, teams shot .394 and averaged 53.0 points per game against the lockdown Texan defense.
WOMEN’S OFFENSIVE
Andrea Carter, Midwestern State University, SR, Forward, Angleton, Texas, Angleton HS
Carter erupted for a season-high 20 points to lead Midwestern State to an 83-71 win over Cameron Sunday to clinch the No. 2 seed in the Lone Star Conference Postseason Tournament. The senior from Angleton connected on 7-of-13 shots while going 6-of-6 from the charity stripe to finish with 20 points and seven rebounds in just 23 minutes on the floor. Carter became just the second player in Midwestern State history to amass 1,000 career rebounds in the win and ranks sixth on the school’s all-time scoring chart with 1,433 points.
WOMEN’S DEFENSIVE
Shambreka Jones, Midwestern State University, SR, Forward, Mesquite, Texas, Poteet HS/Charleston Southern
Jones notched her second double-double of the season in a big way while helping Midwestern State clinch the No. 2 seed in the Lone Star Conference Postseason Tournament Sunday with an 83-71 win over Cameron. The 6-foot senior from Mesquite notched career highs with 18 points and 18 rebounds while swatting four shots as MSU held the Aggies to a 38.6-percent shooting night. Jones became the second player in program history to top the 50-block in a single season and continues to lead the LSC with 2.0 blocked shots per game.
