Golf academic awards announced

Cameron’s Dylan McClure and West Texas A&M’s Judy Papenfus were named the Men’s and Women’s Academic Player of the Year to headline the Lone Star Conference golf academic awards announced by league officials Sunday night at the championship awards banquet.

A senior marketing major from Trophy Club, Texas, McClure has a 73.68 scoring average this season with two runner-up finishes.  He has helped CU win four events.

McClure was joined by WT’s Ethan Peterson and Logan Leggett, and Texas A&M-Commerce’s Marcus Sanna and Kason Childress on the men’s team.  Sanna was recognized for the third time, while Peterson and Childress were repeat selections.

A senior mass communications major from Maclear, South Africa, Papenfus has a 78.82 stroke average with three top 10 finishes for the No. 21 Lady Buffs.

With Papenfus on the women’s team were Angelo State’s Ashley Bartholomew, A&M-C’s Katelyn McCreight, Tarleton State’s Isabel Jimenez-Perea, and Midwestern State’s Sierra Campbell.  Papenfus and Bartholomew were repeat selections on the All-Academic Team.

To be eligible for LSC academic honors, student-athletes must carry at least a 3.30 grade point average and be at least a sophomore, both academically and athletically. The Academic Player of Year award and All-Academic Team are selected from the list of academically qualified players, with the league’s sports information directors voting based on both academic and athletic achievement.
