Midwestern State’s Derek Oland was named the Lone Star Conference Men’s Player of the Year for the second straight year, while Tarleton State’s Isabel Jimenez-Perea claimed top billing on the women’s side for the third time Sunday night as the league’s annual postseason golf awards were announced at the championships banquet.
League officials announced the all-conference teams and individual awards at the banquet, held in conjunction with the LSC Championships at Frisco Lakes Golf Club in Frisco, Texas.
Oland leads MSU with a 72.26 scoring average including 11 par-or-better rounds and five scores in the 60s this season. The senior claimed his ninth career individual victory earlier this season at the San Antonio Shootout.
Jimenez-Perea has been the top scorer for TSU in six of the nine tournaments this season. The junior leads the TexAnns with a 74.26 scoring average in 19 rounds played, with two tournament wins and eight top-10 finishes.
West Texas A&M’s Oscar Spolander earned Freshman of Year honors, while MSU’s Tom Smith was tabbed Newcomer of the Year. Cameron’s Jerry Hrnciar was named Coach of the Year for the third straight year for the men.
On the women’s side, TSU’s Casey Wild earned Freshman of the Year acclaim, while WT’s Meredith Jameson picked up Coach of the Year honors.
Joining Oland on the men’s first team All-LSC was CU’s Cullen Stahl, Bradley Ferrell, and Dylan McClure, and WT’s Spolander
Jimenez-Perea topped the women’s first team All-LSC which also included TSU’s Beatriz Prados, MSU’s Brenna Moore and Sierra Campbell, and WT’s Glory Jangthongsiri.
Five more players were named to the second team for the men and women, while another three men’s and women’s players were recognized as honorable mention All-LSC selections. The awards are voted upon by the league coaches.
