West Texas A&M’s Baptiste Moreu and Harding’s Ewa Zaborowska were tabbed Lone Star Conference Academic Athletes of the Year on Wednesday when league officials announced the LSC’s annual academic awards for men’s and women’s outdoor track and field.
Moreu claimed the men’s top honor for the second straight year, while Zaborowska earned her third consecutive women’s top academic honor.
Moreu led a group of 12 track and field stars on the LSC Men’s All-Academic Team, while Zaborowska was joined by 10 standouts on the LSC Women’s All-Academic Team.
A senior finance major from Auray, France, Moreu holds the LSC’s best time in the 5000m (14:37:67) and has a provisional time of 3:47.82 in the 1500m, which ranks second in the LSC.
Zaborowska, a senior accounting major from Wejherowo, Poland, boasts the league’s best time in the 1500m (4:22.30) and ranks second in the 800m (2:10.24) and third in the 5000m (17:24.93). Her automatic qualifying time in the 1500m ranks fourth in NCAA Division II.
To be eligible for LSC academic honors, student-athletes must carry at least a 3.30 grade point average and have reached sophomore status both athletically and academically. The Academic Player of Year award and All-Academic Team are selected from the list of academically qualified players, with the league’s sports information directors voting based on both academic and athletic achievement.
On the men’s all-academic team with Moreu was Buff teammates Zach Daniel and Fabian Mueller; Texas A&M-Kingsville’s Michal Idziak, Bryce Martin, and Javan Gray; Harding’s Lucas Goodspeed and Milosz Golik; Texas A&M-Commerce’s Hendrik Nungess and Dexter Lee; Tarleton State’s Peyton Best; and Angelo State’s Seth Pearson.
Moreu, Best and Idziak were repeat selections.
Joining Zaborowska on the women’s side was WT’s Bri Leeper, Emma Love and Libby Strickland; TAMUK’s Kathy Trevino and Kaina Martinez; Midwestern State’s Cara Mack; TSU’s Sarah Brown; ASU’s Jordan Gray and Jaylen Rodgers; and Eastern New Mexico’s Beth Blind.
Zaborowska, Love, Gray, and Mack earned a spot on the all-academic team for the third consecutive year, while Leeper, Strickland, and Blind were repeat honorees.
Overall, 23 men and women were selected to the All-Academic teams.
