Golf: Postseason honors announced

Tarleton State’s Isabel Jimenez-Perea was named the Lone Star Conference Women’s Player of the Year for the fourth straight year, while Cameron’s Daniel Nielsen claimed top honors on the men’s side Monday evening as the league’s annual postseason golf awards were announced at the championships.

League officials announced the all-conference teams and individual awards at an awards ceremony, held in conjunction with the LSC Championships at Tascosa Golf Club in Amarillo, Texas.

Jimenez-Perea leads NCAA Division II with a 73.22 scoring average including a pair of tournament titles this season.  The senior has 11 career wins and 36 top-10 finishes in her career.

Nielsen, who was also tabbed Newcomer of the Year, boasts a 72.55 scoring average with two runner-up finishes.

On the women’s side, Angelo State’s Kamryn Cummings earned Freshman of the Year acclaim, while TSU’s Jerry Doyle picked up Coach of the Year honors for the ninth time.

Texas A&M-Commerce’s Garrett Landers was named Freshman of the Year, while CU’s Jerry Hrnciar was named Coach of the Year for the fourth straight year and ninth time for the men.

Jimenez-Perea topped the women’s first team All-LSC which also included TSU’s Casey Wild and Beatriz Prados, WT’s Glory Jangthongsiri, and MSU’s Sierra Campbell.

Joining Nielsen on the men’s first team All-LSC was CU’s Zander Winston and Cullen Stahl, and MSU’s Jared Baker and Thomas Smith.

Five more players were named to the second team for the men and women, while another two men’s and three women’s players were recognized as honorable mention All-LSC selections.  The awards are voted upon by the league coaches.
