Women’s Tennis academic awards announced

Cameron’s Paula Gutierrez was named Women’s Tennis Academic Player of the Year to headline the Lone Star Conference tennis academic awards announced Thursday by league officials.

Gutierrez earned recognition for her success on the court and in the classroom.  The business major from Barcelona, Spain, is 15-3 this season playing out of the No. 1 position for the LSC Champion Aggies.   The junior is 20-6 overall in doubles competition.

Joining Gutierrez on the team was Texas A&M-Kingsville’s Marija Dimitrovska and Mariaxi Herrera, Midwestern State’s Lindsay Nochowicz and Madeline Schorlemmer, and Tarleton State’s Erika Richarme.

Herrera was recognized for the third consecutive year, while Gutierrez, Dimitrovska, and Schorlemmer were all repeat selections.

To be eligible for LSC academic honors, student-athletes must carry at least a 3.30 grade point average and have reached sophomore status both athletically and academically. The Academic Player of Year award and All-Academic Team are selected from the list of academically qualified players, with the league's sports information directors voting on the basis of both academic and athletic achievement.
