Baseball: Postseason awards announced

More than 40 baseball standouts were recognized Wednesday as the Lone Star Conference annual baseball postseason awards were announced prior to this week’s championship.

      The honorees included six first-team selections for LSC Champion Angelo State who had nine tabbed.

      The Rams claimed three special awards as Paxton DeLaGarza was named Player of the Year for the second straight year, Bryce Zak took home Pitcher of the Year acclaim and Kevin Brooks earned Coach of the Year honors.

      Texas A&M-Kingsville had six first-teamers among its nine recipients, while West Texas A&M had five on the top team and 10 overall.

      The Javelinas Preston Plovanich was tabbed Freshman of the Year.

      Cameron was represented by 10 honorees, while Tarleton State had four recognized and ENMU two.

      A total of 44 student-athletes were acknowledged by the all-conference program, including at least one player from each of the six baseball teams in the LSC.  The awards are voted upon by the league coaches.
