LSC announces annual women’s basketball awards

Angelo State’s Jasmine Prophet was tabbed Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year to take top billing as the Lone Star Conference women’s basketball postseason awards were announced Wednesday by league officials.
The awards announcement came at the annual championship banquet in Allen, Texas, where the LSC Basketball Championship tournament is set to begin on Thursday.  First-round games will be played Thursday, March 2, and Friday, March 3, with the semifinals set for Saturday, March 4. Both the women’s and men’s championship games are on Sunday, March 5.
Prophet averages 14.2 points and 6.9 rebounds per game while co-leading the league in field goal percentage (.576).  She has five double-double performances including season-highs of 23 points and 17 boards.  On the defensive side, the senior leads the LSC in blocks with 1.8 per game.
Prophet was joined on the All-LSC first team by Rambelle teammate Taylor Dorsey, Eastern New Mexico’s Mikaehla Connor, Texas Woman’s Kenesha Saygo and West Texas A&M’s Sasha Watson.
With Prophet on the all-defensive team was ENMU’s Connor, Tarleton State’s Mackenzie Hailey, Texas A&M-Commerce’s Brianna Wise, and WT’s Watson and Lilley Vander Zee.
TSU’s Hailey was named Newcomer of the Year, while A&M-C’s Jenna Price earned Freshman of the Year recognition.
The Greyhounds Josh Prock took home Coach of the Year honors.
Overall, 24 student-athletes were recognized by the all-conference program plus five on the all-defensive team.  The awards are voted upon by the league coaches.
