ATHLETES OF THE WEEK
MEN’S TRACK
Marcus Parker, Eastern New Mexico University, FR, Phoenix, Ariz., Centennial HS
Parker turned in a historic performance for the Greyhounds at last weekend’s Willie Williams Classic. He provisionally qualified for the NCAA Division II Championships in two events and was part of a record-setting performance in the 4x100m relay. Parker ran the final portion of the 4x100 relay, crossing the finish line in a team-record 40.37, to earn the quartet provisional qualification and edge Arizona for first place in the event. He also registered first-place finishes in both the 100- and 200-meter dashes, with times of 10.65 and 21.20, respectively. Parker is currently second in the nation in the 200m, while the Greyhounds lead the NCAA Division II in the 4x100m relay.
MEN’S FIELD
Mason Myrick, Angelo State University, JR, Stanton, Texas, Stanton HS
Myrick won the Cactus Cup discus title and threw his first NCAA Division II provisional mark. The junior won the discus with a personal best throw of 166-3 (50.68m). The throw is No. 2 in Division II and No. 1 in the LSC.
WOMEN’S TRACK
Jasmine Sillemon, Angelo State University, SR, Crowell, Texas, Crowell HS
Sillemon won an event title at the Cactus Cup and recorded a NCAA Division II provisional mark. She started her day by clocking a provisional mark of 11.98 in 100-meters and later won the 200-meters in a time of 25.26. The 11.98 mark in the 11th fastest in Division II this season.
WOMEN’S FIELD
Kami Norton, Angelo State University, JR, Albany, Texas, Albany HS
Norton recorded a NCAA Division II automatic qualifying score of 5,409 points in the heptathlon and had three NCAA Division II provisional marks during the ASU Spring Break meet. The personal best score of 5,409 points is No. 1 in Division II. She opened the heptathlon with a provisional mark of 14.04 in the 100-meter hurdles to move up to No. 3 nationally. The junior also recorded marks of 18-11.25 (5.77m) in the long jump and 5-7 (1.70m) in the high jump. She is ranked in the top 10 nationally in both events. The Albany, Texas, native is now in the top 10 nationally in four different events.
