Midwestern State’s Ramon Toyos and Greta Lazzarotto were named Men’s and Women’s Academic Players of the Year, respectively, to headline the Lone Star Conference tennis academic awards announced Thursday by league officials.
Toyos and Lazzarotto earned Academic Player of the Year acclaim for their success on the court and in the classroom.
Joining Toyos on the squad was Western New Mexico’s Vladimir Gnilozubov and Tristan Da Lio, Cameron’s Bruno Babic and Mateo Velasco, and UT Permian Basin’s Raul Stevens.
Lazzarotto topped the team that also included CU’s Paula Gutierrez, Tarleton State’s Elena Preadca and Erika Johnston, Texas A&M-Kingsville’s Tabata Lua, and UTPB’s Maria Orona.
Gutierrez was recognized for the third consecutive year, while Johnston was a repeat selection.
To be eligible for LSC academic honors, student-athletes must carry at least a 3.30 grade point average and have reached sophomore status both athletically and academically. The Academic Player of Year award and All-Academic Team are selected from the list of academically qualified players, with the league's sports information directors voting on the basis of both academic and athletic achievement.
