Cameron’s Dario Gabriel and Tarleton State’s Casey Wild were named the Men’s and Women’s Academic Player of the Year to headline the Lone Star Conference golf academic awards announced by league officials Sunday evening at the championship banquet.
Gabriel earned top academic honors and was joined by Western New Mexico’s Harry Wetton and Ross White, Midwestern State’s Thomas Smith, and West Texas A&M’s Braxton Sides. Smith was recognized for the second straight year.
On the women’s side, Wild claimed top billing for the second straight year. With Wild on the women’s team was Texas A&M-Commerce’s Emily Taylor, WT’s Mattye Mason, WNMU’s Bobbi Pierson, and Angelo State’s Kamryn Cummings. Wild and Mason were repeat selections on the All-Academic Team.
To be eligible for LSC academic honors, student-athletes must carry at least a 3.30 grade point average and be at least a sophomore, both academically and athletically. The Academic Player of Year award and All-Academic Team are selected from the list of academically qualified players, with the league’s sports information directors voting based on both academic and athletic achievement.
