The top defensive players were recognized Wednesday as the Lone Star Conference Baseball Golden Glove Awards were announced at the championship banquet.
For the first time, the Golden Glove Awards were determined by a vote of LSC head coaches based on defensive performance alone for all nine positions.
LSC Champion Angelo State had the most Golden Glovers with three, while West Texas A&M had two. Texas A&M-Kingsville, Tarleton State, Eastern New Mexico, and UT Permian Basin each had one defensive standout.
The recipients included ASU catcher Matt Waller and TSU pitcher Nathan Hickey. The infield was composed of TAMUK’s Jimmy Roche at first base, ASU’s Jonathan Soberanes at second, ENMU’s Endy Villalona at shortstop, and WT’s Chad Brown at third base.
The outfield included ASU’s Elias Aguirre, WT’s Jimmy Cubillos, and UTPB’s Doug Clapperton.
