Angelo State’s Matt Waller topped the Lone Star Conference Baseball All-Academic Team, as the league’s annual postseason awards were announced prior to the start of this week’s LSC Baseball Championship.
Waller was tabbed Academic Player of the Year to lead the All-Academic team.
The senior catcher from Arlington, Texas, is hitting .350 with 49 hits and 38 RBIs. He has 13 doubles, three triples and four home runs with 28 runs scored for the Rams. Waller has with 226 putouts with a .984 fielding percentage.
Waller was joined by Eastern New Mexico’s Keenan Dodd and Andrew Stubbs; Texas A&M-Kingsville’s Hunter Perkins, Hunter Lehman and Preston Plovanich; UT Permian Basin’s Doug Clapperton; Cameron’s Tyler Abrego; and West Texas A&M’s Justin McAllister.
McAllister was a repeat selection.
To be eligible for LSC academic honors, student-athletes must carry at least a 3.30 grade point average and have reached sophomore status both athletically and academically. The Academic Player of Year award and All-Academic Team are selected from the list of academically qualified players, with the league's sports information directors voting on the basis of both academic and athletic achievement.
