LSC announces softball academic awards

For the second straight year, West Texas A&M’s Kilee Halbert headlined the Lone Star Conference Softball All-Academic team which was announced at the LSC Softball Championship banquet.

A junior nursing major from Dalhart, Texas, Halbert is 20-3 in the circle for the Lady Buffs.  She boasts a 1.51 ERA and 103 strikeouts in 134 innings pitched.

Joining Halbert on the All-Academic Team are teammates Allie Smith and Shea Ibrahim; Texas Woman's Katy Stephens and Nicole Nordie; Angelo State’s Kenedy Urbany; Texas A&M-Commerce’s Ciera Nunez; Tarleton State’s Avery Mullendore; and Texas A&M-Kingsville’s Roxy Chapa.

Stephens was recognized for the third time, while Halbert, Smith, and Nordie were repeat selections.

To be eligible for LSC academic honors, student-athletes must carry at least a 3.30 grade point average and have reached sophomore status both athletically and academically. The Academic Player of Year award and All-Academic Team are selected from the list of academically qualified players, with the league’s sports information directors voting on the basis of both academic and athletic achievement.
