Midwestern State, Tarleton State, and Texas A&M-Commerce top the Lone Star Conference standings remaining undefeated in league games.
LSC play continues with four games this week: Texas A&M-Commerce at Midwestern State, Eastern New Mexico at Tarleton State, UT Permian Basin at West Texas A&M, and Angelo State at Western New Mexico. In addition, Western Oregon is at Texas A&M-Kingsville in non-conference action.
LSC football teams are 22-21 overall this season. The squads are 4-3 combined versus the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, Northern Sun Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, and Great Northwest Athletic Conference teams, which are also in NCAA Super Regional Four.

LSC FOOTBALL ON ESPN3
The Lone Star Conference game between Texas A&M-Kingsville and Texas A&M-Commerce on Thursday, August 30 was featured as part of the Division II Football Showcase schedule.
The first 19 games of the football showcase are predetermined games, 17 of which are conference matchups. An additional three flex games — intended to highlight crucial matchups — will be finalized later in the season and played in November.

Carter IV averaged over 7 yards per carry in West Texas A&M's 28-26 victory over No. 14 Central Washington on Saturday night in Ellensburg, Wash. The Wildcats had no answer for the junior as he became the first Buff to run for over 200 yards in more than three years with his 259 yards, 35-carry performance. His 79-yard touchdown run in the second quarter marked the fourth straight the Grand Prairie, Texas product scored on the ground. He also recorded two receptions for 12 yards and a touchdown as the Buffs defeated a Top 15 opponent for the second consecutive year.
DEFENSIVE
Chris Hoad, UT Permian Basin, JR, Criminal Justice, LB, Leander, Texas, Rouse HS
Hoad was all over the field for the Falcons in their 21-20 win over Western New Mexico. The junior registered a game-high 15 tackles, including 10 in the second half of the Falcons comeback. He played a major part in only allowing 233 yards of total offense, with nine solo tackles. Hoad also had 2.5 tackles for loss for five yards and registered a quarterback hit.
SPECIAL TEAMS
Tyler Vargas, Eastern New Mexico University, JR, Sports Management, K, San Diego, Calif., Ramona HS
Vargas converted on all three field goal attempts in Eastern New Mexico's 31-23 loss against No. 5 Midwestern State including a season-long 44-yard attempt. The San Diego, Calif. connected from 33, 30, and 44 yards out and had three punts for 105 yards (35.0 average). Vargas was active in all three phases of the kicking game as he also had five kickoffs throughout the contest (57.0 average), two of which went through the back of the end zone for a touchback.
