Tarleton State and Texas A&M-Commerce lead the Lone Star Conference standings at 4-0 and 3-0, respectively, in league games. The Lions host the Texans this Saturday.
LSC play continues with four games this week: Tarleton State at Texas A&M-Commerce, Midwestern State at Texas A&M-Kingsville, West Texas A&M at Angelo State, and Western New Mexico at Eastern New Mexico. In addition, Humboldt State is at UT Permian Basin in non-conference action.
LSC football teams are 26-26 overall this season. The squads are 4-4 combined versus the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, Northern Sun Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, and Great Northwest Athletic Conference teams, which are also in NCAA Super Regional Four.

LSC SELECTED TO HOST 2018 DII FOOTBALL NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP GAME
The NCAA Division II Football Committee has selected the city of McKinney, Texas, and the Lone Star Conference as the host of 2018 Division II football national championship game.
The committee’s recommendation for the game at McKinney Independent School District Stadium and Community Event Center on Saturday, Dec. 15, 2018, was approved by the NCAA Division II Championships Committee on Thursday (Oct. 4). The new location for the Division II national championship game opened earlier this year and is a 12,000-seat facility built specifically for football.
LSC FOOTBALL ON ESPN3
The Lone Star Conference game between Texas A&M-Kingsville and Texas A&M-Commerce on Thursday, August 30 was featured as part of the Division II Football Showcase schedule.
The first 19 games of the football showcase are predetermined games, 17 of which are conference matchups. An additional three flex games — intended to highlight crucial matchups — will be finalized later in the season and played in November.

Thompson rolled up over 200 all-purpose yards and set up multiple scores in the No. 9 Lions' 20-19 victory over No. 4 MSU Texas. His long rush of 32 yards was the catalyst for the Lions' first score, and two consecutive receptions setup another long drive.
DEFENSIVE
Brucks Saathoff, Texas A&M University-Commerce, SR, Construction Engineering, LB, San Antonio, Texas, Reagan HS
Saathoff was the Lions' top tackler in the No. 9 team in the nation's 20-19 win over No. 4 MSU Texas. He made nine stops and also blocked a potential go-ahead field goal in the fourth quarter.

Kristov Martinez, Texas A&M University-Commerce, SR, Master's of Education in Secondary Education, K, Edinburg, Texas, Edinburg HS
Martinez went 2-for-3 on field goals in the No. 9 Lions' 20-19 win over No. 4 MSU Texas. His second field goal of the game was his 62nd career field goal, which ties the Lone Star Conference career field goal mark. He also consistently booted the ball through the end zone on kickoffs, including a touchback on a free kick from the 20 after a safety.
