Softball: Golden Glove Awards revealed

The top defensive players were recognized Thursday as recipients of the Lone Star Conference Softball Golden Glove Awards were announced at the championship banquet.

For the seventh time, the Golden Glove Awards were determined by a vote of LSC head coaches based on defensive performance alone for all nine positions.

LSC Champion Angelo State and Texas A&M-Commerce had the most defensive standouts with three each, while Tarleton State and Texas A&M-Kingsville had two apiece.  West Texas A&M had one honoree.

The recipients included the ASU catcher Taegan Kirk and A&M-C pitcher Emily Otto.  The infield consisted of TSU’s Megan Durante and Marisa Flores at first base and second, respectively, along with ASU’s Danae Bina at shortstop, and TAMUK’s Rachael Longoria at third base.

A&M-C’s Baylea Higgs and Ciera Nunez; TAMUK’s Haley Boyett; WT’s Ashley Hardin; and ASU’s Brooke Mangold represented the outfield.

Kirk, Durante, Bina, Hardin, Higgs and Boyett were all repeat selections.
