Softball: Postseason awards announced

The Lone Star Conference recognized its softball stars Thursday as the postseason awards were announce by league officials at the championship banquet.
 
      LSC champion Angelo State had nine players receive All-LSC distinction including a league-high six first-team honors.
 
      ASU, which won the conference title for the eighth time with a 25-5 record, was represented on the All-LSC first team by Taegan Kirk, Bailey Wallace, Brandy Marlett, Morgan Hill, Danae Bina, and Madison Greenwell.
 
      The Rambelles claimed a pair of special awards as well.  Marlett was named Co-Pitcher of the Year for the third time and Travis Scott picked up his second straight and seventh overall Coach of the Year award.
 
      Texas A&M-Commerce’s Mariah Jameyson picked up Player of the Year acclaim, while Cameron’s Rylee Willmon earned Co-Newcomer of the Year honors.
 
      Tarleton State had three individual award winners with Jordan Withrow tabbed Co-Pitcher of the Year, Georgia Capell named Freshman of the Year, and Tanna Huie earning Co-Newcomer of the Year honors.
 
      The TexAnns had nine players named to the all-conference team with three first-team honorees, while West Texas A&M had eight with four on the top squad. A&M-C had six players recognized, followed by CU and Texas A&M-Kingsville with five each. Texas Woman’s had four, Eastern New Mexico two, and Midwestern State, UT Permian Basin, and Western New Mexico one.
 
      Overall, 51 student-athletes were honored by the all-conference program, with a player from all 11 LSC teams.  The awards are voted upon by the league coaches, who determined a 20-player first team by position, along with second and third teams, consisting of 15 players, respectively, regardless of positions.
