Clay, Watten tabbed for weekly honors

SOSU's Randall Clay

Southeastern Oklahoma's Randall Clay and Abilene Christian's Trey Watten picked up Lone Star Conference Baseball Players of the Week honors for their performances last week, the league office announced today.

LSC BASEBALL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
LSC Hitter of the Week
Randall Clay, Southeastern Oklahoma State University
Sr., Infielder, Rattan, Okla./Rattan HS

Randall Clay helped SOSU to a 4-2 record last week, winning three out of four from UCO and splitting on the road with No. 1 ranked Southern Arkansas.  Clay has collected a hit in every game last week, hitting .429 on the week and slugging an impressive 1.000.  He drove in 10 runs last week, including seven of the 22 that SOSU scored in the UCO series.  He has three home runs and three doubles in his nine hits.

LSC Pitcher of the Week
Trey Watten, Abilene Christian University
Jr., Right-handed pitcher, Coppell, Texas/Coppell High School
Watten was almost unhittable as he cruised to his seventh win of the season in ACU's 6-1 win over Angelo State on Saturday.  Watten allowed just eight baserunners in the game as he worked around five errors by his defense and one passed ball on a strikeout.  The Rams' only run was an unearned run in the sixth, but by then Watten and the Wildcats had the game well in hand.  He held one of the nation's top hitting teams to a .125 batting average and three hits en route to the victory.  Watten also had a huge weekend at the plate, taking over the leadoff spot in the wake of an injury to Matt Spotanski.  Watten hit .600 (9 for 15) with two home runs and 11 RBI on the weekend.  In Sunday's series-clinching win, Watten had a game-tying three-run home run and the game-winning two-run single.
