Women's Basketball: Jordan, Brister chosen for Preseason honors

WTAMU's Emily Brister

Texas A&M-Commerce junior guard Britney Jordan and West Texas A&M junior guard Emily Brister were selected for Lone Star Conference Preseason Players of the Year honors for 2007-08, league officials announced Wednesday.

Jordan was named LSC North Division Preseason Player of the Year, while Brister was a unanimous selection for LSC South Division Preseason Player of the Year honors.  The league's preseason awards were picked by a vote of LSC head coaches and sports information directors, plus various media representatives from throughout the region.

A&M-C's Jordan was the choice on 17 of the 20 ballots in the North, with Central Oklahoma's Lizzie Brenner receiving the other three votes.  WTAMU's Brister received all 23 of the votes cast in the South.

Jordan is back after helping the Lions advance to the NCAA Elite Eight for the first time in school history.  Last season, Jordan earned All-LSC North Division first team and Newcomer of the Year honors for her role in the Lions' LSC North Division title, LSC crown and NCAA South Central Regional championship.  She led the Lions in scoring during the LSC Championship, including a school record 43-point outburst in the first round, to earn tournament Most Valuable Player recognition as well.

Brister returns to lead WTAMU which finished last season 28-5 including a perfect 14-0 in the LSC South Division for their second straight divisional title.  The highly decorated junior earned her second LSC South Division Player of the Year award and was a first team all-conference pick after leading the league in scoring with 22.9 points per game.

These two players will lead their teams onto the playing court in mid-November when the 2007-08 basketball season begins.  The LSC has 15 teams - seven in the North Division and eight in the South - set to compete this year, with each team playing a home-and-home divisional schedule and a single round of crossover games against teams for the opposite division.
