Basketball: Four players earn weekly honors
Four student-athletes were named Lone Star Conference Basketball Players of the Week for their performances last week, league officials announced today.
LSC BASKETBALL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
LSC North Women's
Lizzie Brenner, University of Central Oklahoma
Jr., Forward, Woodward, Okla./Woodward
Brenner dominated play at the season-opening Pittsburg State
Classic, averaging a staggering 28.5 points and 17.5 rebounds a
game as the Bronchos went 1-1. The junior star had 27 points
and a career-high 16 rebounds in a 78-72 loss to host Pittsburg
State on Friday, then came back Saturday with an even better outing
in a 79-72 win over Southwest Baptist. Brenner tied a
career-high with 30 points and bested her day-old rebounding high
with 19 boards, which ranks as the fourth-best rebounding game in
school history. She had 20 points and 10 rebounds in the
second half alone against SBU. Brenner shot 64.7 percent from
the field and 81.3 percent from the line in the two games while
adding five assists, four steals and three blocked shots.
LSC South Women's
Emily Brister, West Texas A&M University
Jr., G, Amarillo, Texas/Amarillo HS
Brister, selected as the Preseason Player of the Year by both the
LSC and the Women's Division II Bulletin, led West Texas A&M by
shooting 52.8% from the floor, 46.2% from behind the arc and 75%
from the free throw line. Her 53 points were the most scored by any
Lady Buff - the next closest scorer had 14 points - and she also
dished out three assists. Brister also led the defensive drive as
she grabbed a team-high 12 rebounds (four defensive, eight
offensive, 6.0 average) and had two blocks and five steals. Despite
the Lady Buffs falling to Sonoma State and host Chico State in the
Coslet Classic, Brister was named to the all-tournament team for
her efforts.

Nate Perry, Southwestern Oklahoma State University
Sr., F, Racine, Wis./Racine
Perry averaged 21.5 points and 8.0 rebounds and led the Bulldogs
to a 75-67 victory over defending NAIA champion Oklahoma City
University and MIAA foe Fort Hays State by a 73-65 margin. Perry
made 71% of his shots from the field including making 17-of-19
attempts from the field (counting field goals and free throws) in
the win against FHSU.
LSC South Men's
Wendell Mulkey, Texas A&M University-Kingsville
Jr., Guard, San Antonio, Texas/East Central

shot with 1.6 seconds left to lift the Texas A&M-Kingsville
Javelinas to their seventh consecutive season-opening win, 53-51 at
St. Mary's. Mulkey scored six of the Javelinas' final nine
points, rallying his club from down seven points with seven minutes
left in the game. He also had five assists and three steals
while playing 39 minutes.
