Basketball: Four players earn weekly honors
Four student-athletes were named Lone Star Conference Basketball Players of the Week for their performances over the holiday break, league officials announced today.
LSC BASKETBALL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
LSC North Women's
Lacey Goldwire, East Central University
Sr., Guard, Oklahoma City, Okla./Del City High School
Goldwire poured in a career-high 37 points on 12-of-18 shooting
(1-of-3 from 3-point range) and 17-of-18 from the line as ECU beat
host Texas Woman's 74-60 on Dec. 20. Goldwire also collected eight
rebounds, four assists and a steal in that contest. Goldwire
tallied 12 points and grabbed five boards to go with two steals and
an assist as the Lady Tigers topped visiting St. Edward's 56-45 on
Dec. 15. Entering the 2008 portion of the schedule, Goldwire is
averaging 20.2 points and 5.6 rebounds through nine games and has
shot 50.4 percent from the floor and 83.9 percent from the
free-throw line so far this season as ECU is off to a 7-2
start.
LSC South Women's
Lindsey Leatherman, Angelo State University
So., Forward, Floydada, Texas/Floydada HS
Leatherman led the ‘Belles in scoring in both of their
victories while in the Hoop'N'Surf Classic in Honolulu, Hawaii, on
Dec. 17-18. Leatherman scored 20 points in ASU's 67-62 win
over 2007 regional tournament participant Northwest Missouri.
Against the Bearcats, Leatherman shot 50 percent from three-point
range. She answered that with a season-best 23-point
performance in the ‘Belles' 83-57 blowout of Hawaii Pacific.
Leatherman was a perfect 6-of-6 from the free-throw line against
the Sea Warriors. Leatherman is currently second on the team
in scoring, averaging 14.3 points per game.

Scooby Johnson, Texas A&M University-Commerce
Sr., Forward, Buffalo, Texas/Texas A&M-Corpus
Christi
He has been in double digits for all 12 games for the Lions and
nearly had a double-double against St. Edward's scoring a
season-high 31 points and grabbing 11 rebounds. He was the Lions'
representative on the All-Tournament Team for the St. Edward's
Holiday Tournament. With a team-leading 63.1% of his field goals,
he is on pace to eclipse the school record of 62.8%. He ranks in
the top 15 in eight-different categories.
LSC South Men's
Nolan Richardson IV, Midwestern State University
Jr., Guard, Tulsa, Okla./Central HS
Richardson helped Midwestern State complete a perfect December by
averaging 23 points as the Mustangs won each of their three games
over the Holiday break. The 6-1 junior guard from Tulsa, Okla. shot
46.7 percent from the field, but was 11-of-18 (61.1 percent) from
the arc while averaging 3.7 treys per game. Richardson also knocked
down 16 of his 17 free-throw attempts (94.1 percent). He scored a
season-high 29 points (10-of-18 from the floor and 5-of-7 from the
3-point line) to lead the Mustangs to a 127-124 quadruple overtime
win over Emporia State in the longest game in school history on
Dec. 20. Richardson bettered his season high in a 75-63 victory
over St. Mary's on Dec. 29 when poured in 30 points including a
12-of-12 effort from the line while canning four 3-pointers.
