Basketball: Four players receive weekly honors
Four student-athletes were named Lone Star Conference Basketball Players of the Week for their efforts last week, league officials announced today.
LSC BASKETBALL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
LSC North Women's
Ashley Tucker, Southeastern Oklahoma State University
Jr., Guard, Drumright, Okla./Drumright HS
Tucker averaged 15.0 points, 5.0 rebounds and 4.5 assists per game
in guiding Southeastern Oklahoma State to a pair of wins in Lone
Star Conference crossover play. She also was perfect from the
free throw line and hit 50.0 percent from behind the three point
arc. Tucker converted two free throws with :16 remaining
against Midwestern State to seal a Storm win. Additionally,
she led the team in blocks with 3 over two games.
LSC South Women's
Lindsey Leatherman, Angelo State University
So., Forward, Floydada, Texas/Floydada HS
Leatherman scored 19.0 points per game as the ‘Belles
claimed two more victories this past week to extend their winning
to 10 games. Leatherman open the week with a 17-point
performance in ASU's 53-26 home win over St. Edward's. She
then poured in 21 points while dishing out a career-high six
assists in the ‘Belles' 85-83 upset of No. 18 Texas
A&M-Commerce Thursday night on the road. Leatherman shot
34.4 percent from the field and hit 35.3 percent of her attempts
from behind the arc. She hit 10-of-12 shots from the
free-throw line (83.3%) and added 2.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 1.0
steal per game. Leatherman has scored in double digits in 13
of 15 games including the past 10 straight. She has now
reached the 20-point plateau on five occasions, all during ASU's
current 10-game winning streak.
LSC North Men's
Aaron Arango, Northeastern State University
Jr., G, San Bernardino, Calif./Citrus College/Calvary Baptist
High
Arango scored a career high 23 points on separate nights as the
RiverHawks picked up a pair of victories over Haskell Indian
Nations University and #21 Texas A&M-Kingsville. In a
mild upset over #21 Kingsville, Arango hit 7-10 from the field
and 5-6 from behind the arc in a 78-60 victory. Arango
averaged 23 points per game, hitting 17-25 from the field for 68
percent and 8-12 from behind the arc for 66 percent.
LSC South Men's
Robert Lee, West Texas A&M University
Sr., Guard, Fort Worth, Texas/Eastern Hills High
School
After dropping two of their last three contests, the Buffs needed
somebody to step up and return the team to its winning ways heading
into LSC South action. Senior Robert Lee answered his team's need
and helped the Buffs notch a pair of road victories, including an
87-73 upset victory over No. 13 Southwestern Oklahoma. The Fort
Worth, Texas, native connected on 20-of-32 field goal attempts for
a team leading 23 points per game last week, while also adding 12
rebounds and 10 assists.
