Basketball: Four players receive weekly honors
Four student-athletes received Lone Star Conference Basketball Player of the Week honors for their efforts last week, league officials announced today.
LSC BASKETBALL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
LSC North Women's
Ashley Tucker, Southeastern Oklahoma State University
Jr., Guard, Drumright, Okla./Drumright HS
Ashley Tucker helped lead SOSU to a pair of wins last
week, including an 88-77 win over Texas A&M-Commerce and an
82-76 win over Cameron. For the week she averaged 19.0 points, 6.0
reboundsand 7.5 assists per game while playing all 40 minutes of
both contests. She
also added 2.0 steals per game and a block. She hit 50.0 percent
of her 3-point shots (3-of-6) and was 86.4 percent form the free
throw line, hitting 19-of-22. From the point-guard position, she
ran an offense that averaged 85.0 points last week and won by an
average of 8.5 points.
LSC South Women's
Camille Perkins, Angelo State University
Fr., Guard, Groesbeck, Texas/Groesbeck HS
Camille Perkins scored 24 points in both games this week for the
'Belles as ASU grabbed third place in the South outright. She hit
6-of-10 shots from the field and 11-of-15 attempts from the
free-throw line in ASU's 96-89 overtime win at Midwestern State on
Wednesday. Perkins
added an 8-for-19 performance, including two 3-pointers, Saturday
night in the 'Belles' 70-52 home win over Eastern New Mexico. She
has now scored in double figures in 14 straight as she continues to
battle for LSC South Freshman of the Year honors.
LSC North Men's
Ben Rovenstine, Northeastern State University
Jr., Guard, Bartlesville, Okla./Bartlesville HS
Junior Ben Rovenstine helped the RiverHawks to a 2-0 mark last
week. He averaged nine points and 7.5 rebounds per contest while
shooting 55 percent from the field and beyond the arc. But it was
his play on the defensive end that made the difference, as
Rovenstine held Central Oklahoma's talented and much taller Sam
Belt to just 11 points on 4-9 shooting. Ben helped the RiverHawks
clinch a spot in the LSC postseason tournament - which will be
played in his hometown of Bartlesville, Okla. - for the first time
since the 2003-04 season.
LSC South Men's
Nolan Richardson IV, Midwestern State University
Jr., Guard, Tulsa, Okla./Central HS
Richardson's 15-foot fade jumper beat the buzzer and Angelo State
Wednesday night at D.L. Ligon Coliseum as the junior guard from
Tulsa scored eight points in the final minutes to help the Mustangs
come back from an 11-point deficit with 3:27 to go. Richardson
finished with
a game-high 21 points and added four assists and four rebounds
after hitting a pair of clutch 3-pointers to pull the Mustangs
within four at the 1:01 mark and tie the game with 20 seconds to
go. Richardson then scored eight of his game-high 26 points in the
final minute Saturday night at Abilene Christian. He hit a
3-pointer with 14 seconds left to pull MSU within three, then hit
another to with four seconds left to cut the deficit to two.
Richardson averaged 23.5 points, 5.5 assists and 4.5 rebounds a
game for the week.
