Men's Basketball: WTAMU's Cooper tops academic honors
West Texas A&M senior Tyler Cooper was named Academic Player of the Year for the third straight year to highlight a group of five players selected for the Lone Star Conference All-Academic Men's Basketball Team, it was announced Tuesday by league officials at the LSC Awards Banquet in Bartlesville, Okla.
Cooper boasts a flawless 4.0 grade point average in pre-medicine. He has averaged 6.9 points and 5.7 rebounds this season to help WTAMU win the South Division title.
To be eligible for LSC academic honors, student-athletes must have reached sophomore status and carry at least a 3.20 grade point average. The All-Academic Team is selected from the list of academically qualified players, with the league's sports information directors voting on the basis of both academic and athletic achievement. All qualifying student-athletes not selected for the All-Academic Team are placed on the Commissioner's Honor Roll.
Joining Cooper on the All-Academic Team were Midwestern State's Christopher Reay, Central Oklahoma's Sam Belt, East Central's Ian Adams and Cameron's Kallan Glasgow.
