TSU, WTAMU selected to host men's and women's South Central regional tournaments

A total of six Lone Star Conference basketball teams have been selected to continue their seasons at the South Central Regional basketball tournament the NCAA announced tonight.

On the men's side, Tarleton State is the top seed and will host the three-day event at Wisdom Gym in Stephenville, Texas, March 15, 16 and 18.  The Texans will face St. Mary's, the Heartland Conference champions, in the first round.

Central Oklahoma and West Texas A&M were also picked to play at the regional tournament.  The Bronchos are the third seed after winning the LSC title on Saturday and will meet Fort Hays State in the opening round, while the Buffs are the fourth seed and open play against Southwest Baptist.

Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association champion Northwest Missouri State and St. Edward's complete the bracket and meet in the first round.

The South Central champion will advance to the finals and face the South Atlantic champion in the opening round at the MassMutual Center in Springfield, Massachusetts, March 26, 27 and 29.

WTAMU, the No. 1 seed in the regional poll every week this season, will host the women's tournament March 14, 15 and 17 at the First United Bank Center in Canyon, Texas.  The Lady Buffs earned the league's automatic qualification after winning the LSC Championship earlier today.  WTAMU opens play against MIAA champion Northwest Missouri State, the eighth seed.

UCO, the third seed, and Angelo State, the seventh seed will also represent the LSC.  The Bronchos are making the first postseason trip in school history against St. Mary's.  The Rambelles begin play against Washburn.

Rounding out the women's field is Emporia State and Southwest Baptist who will square off in the first round.
