Basketball: Eight LSC teams selected for regional tournaments



Eight Lone Star Conference basketball teams, with four each on the men's and women's side, were selected to continue their season at the South Central Regional basketball tournament the NCAA announced tonight.

      West Texas A&M was selected to host the women's tournament March 13, 14 and 16 at the First United Bank Center in Canyon, Texas.  The Lady Buffs earned the league's automatic qualification after winning the LSC Championship Saturday night.  Joining WTAMU in the field is Central Oklahoma, Southeastern Oklahoma and Abilene Christian.

      The four teams will meet in the first round with WTAMU facing ACU and UCO playing SE.  Rounding out the women's bracket is Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association champion Washburn against Heartland Champion Incarnate Word and Emporia State versus St. Mary's.

      The regional champion will advance to the Women's Elite Eight running on March 24, 25 and 27 at Bill Greehey Arena in San Antonio, Texas.

      The men's teams are headed to Central Missouri in Warrensburg, Mo., for their tournament March 14, 15 and 17.  UCO, Midwestern State, Angelo State and Texas A&M-Kingsville each earned a spot in the field.

      The Bronchos begin play against Dallas Baptist, ASU faces Southwest Baptist, TAMUK meets host UCM and LSC Champion MSU plays Incarnate Word.

      The men's tournament culminates with the quarterfinals through finals being played at the MassMutual Center in Springfield, Massachusetts, March 25, 26 and 28.
