Football: WTAMU, MSU fall in second round of NCAA Playoffs
A pair of undefeated teams knocked off West Texas A&M and Midwestern State in the second round of the NCAA Division II Playoffs on Saturday.
No. 9 WTAMU (11-2) fell to No. 7 Chadron State (12-0), 43-17, after taking a five-point lead into halftime in Chadron, Neb. Dalton Bell threw a pair of touchdown passes to put the Buffaloes ahead in the first half. The second half was a different story, as the Eagles scored 31 unanswered points for the win.
CSC standout Danny Woodhead, a Harlon Hill finalist, did most of the damage, with 252 total yards and four touchdowns in the game. The junior running back became the NCAA all-division single season rushing leader with 2,740 yards on the year.
No. 18 MSU (10-3) dropped a 27-0 decision to No. 2 Northwest Missouri State (12-0). The Bearcats held the Mustangs to just 147 yards to shutout MSU for the first time in 11 years.
CSC and NWMSU advance to play each other in the Southwest Region Championship game on Dec. 2.
