LSC PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
LSC North Offensive
Rick Montgomery, Central Oklahoma, Jr., Wide Receiver,
Houston, Texas/Worthing
Had a huge outing in his first-ever game with the Bronchos,
catching six passes for 116 yards to lead UCO to a stunning 27-17
upset of No. 11 Abilene Christian. Had a 24-yard catch to the
ACU four-yard-line to set up UCO's first score that pulled the
Bronchos within 10-7 in the second period, then had a 13-yard
reception in the final seconds of the period to set up a 21-yard
field goal that gave UCO a 17-10 halftime lead. Followed that
with his biggest play of the game, a 65-yard TD catch on UCO's
opening possession of the third quarter that made it
24-10.
LSC North Defensive
Andre Morgan, Southwestern Oklahoma State, Sr., FS, Garland,
Texas/South HS/Troy State
Morgan, a senior transfer from Troy State, continues to
be the dominating player for the Bulldogs defensively. His 12
tackles were tops on a team that limited Texas A&M-Kingsville
to 194 yards of total offense on 67 plays, an average of 2.9 yards
per play.
LSC North Special Teams
Brandon Smith, Central Oklahoma, Sr., Defensive back,
Harbor City, Calif./Narbonne
Senior played a huge role in UCO's shocking 27-17 upset of No. 11
Abilene Christian in the season-opener. His interception and
42-yard return in the second quarter stopped an ACU drive and set
up a 28-yard UCO touchdown drive as the Bronchos scored 27
unanswered points in overcoming a 10-0 deficit for the win.
He also had a 29-yard punt return to the ACU 28 in the fourth
quarter that led to a 42-yard field goal and a 27-10 lead.
Smith added four tackles on defense.
Co-LSC South Offensive
Keithon Flemming, West Texas A&M, So., Running Back,
Mesquite, Texas/Naaman Forest HS
The explosive Buffalo offense didn't miss a beat on Thursday night
as they kicked off the 2007 season and a large part of the credit
goes to Flemming. He racked up 221 yards of total offense,
including 166 on the ground and found the endzone four times as the
Buffs defeated No.8 South Dakota. Flemming put points on the board
during the Buffs' season-opening drive with a one-yard plunge and
returned to pay dirt the next time WTAMU got the ball with a
55-yard scamper. He added a pair of scores during the contest's
second half to help the Buffs secure their second win over a Top 10
opponent under head coach Don Carthel.
Scott Grantham, Tarleton State, R-Fr., QB, El Paso,
Texas/Franklin High School
Grantham was 16 of 21 while throwing for two touchdowns and 220
yards, leading the Texans to a 27-24 victory over NCAA Division I
Subdivision Stephen F. Austin. He was four-for-four in the
last drive of the game that set up a field goal at the end of
regulation, which was wide left.
LSC South Defensive
Tywain Myles, Tarleton State, Sr., Defensive Tackle,
Nacogdoches, Texas/Nacogdoches
Playing in his hometown, Myles had two big plays Saturday from the
defensive tackle position, including forcing a fumble in overtime
to help keep Stephen F. Austin scoreless in the extra
session. He had six tackles, including three solo
tackles.
Co-LSC South Special Teams
Stephen Arnold, Tarleton State, So., Kicker, McKinney,
Texas/McKinney High School
Arnold hit a 37-yard field goal to lift the Texans to a 27-24
victory over NCAA Division I Subdivision Stephen F. Austin.
Arnold also hit a 34-yard field goal with 2:44 left in the third
quarter that tied the game at 17 points apiece. He was also
three-for-three in extra points, scoring nine points in the
contest.
Sam Tindol, Angelo State, Jr., Wide Receiver/Special
Teams, Coahoma, Texas/Coahoma
Tindol scooped up a fumble on a Bearkat punt return and returned
it 33 yards for the Rams' first score of the night, cutting SHSU's
lead to 17-7 to enter halftime. Tindol's play was the spark
that brought ASU to life as the Rams shutout SHSU over the second
half of play. However, the Rams could only muster two second
half field goals in the 17-13 loss. In addition, Tindol
pulled in five catches for a career-high 123 yards, including grabs
of 62 and 41 yards.
