Football: South Division continues to win
The Lone Star Conference South Division continued its winning
ways with six victories in crossover contests this week.
Abilene Christian, Eastern New Mexico, Midwestern State, West Texas
A&M, Tarleton State and Texas A&M-Kingsville each recorded
wins over their North Division counterparts.
The Mustangs, Buffaloes, Greyhounds and Texans
also remained undefeated this season with a 4-0 mark, while the
Javelinas picked up their first win of the season.
Next week marks the start of divisional
play with five divisional contests and one crossover game on
Saturday including a match-up between undefeated ENMU and ACU at 7
p.m. which will be shown live via broadband as part of the NCAA
Division II and CSTV agreement at http://www.cstv.com/ncaa/divii/.
LSC PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
LSC North Offensive
Kolby Williams, Southeastern Oklahoma State, Sr., QB,
Bartlesville, Okla./Bartlesville HS
Williams threw for 462 yards on 32-of-56 passing to break an SOSU
school single-game record in passing yards. He broke the old
record of 461 set by Troy Taylor in 1985. Williams connected with
eight different receivers and helped two of them to 100-plus yard
games. His 400-yard performance was just the third such in school
history.
LSC North Defensive
Will Clewis, Central Oklahoma, Sr., Linebacker, Fort Worth,
Okla./Worthing HS
Senior standout piled up a career-high 16 tackles in UCO's 21-7
loss to unbeaten Eastern New Mexico.
LSC North Special Teams
Daniel Swaim, Texas A&M-Commerce, Jr., Punter,
Kilgore, Texas/Lon Morris JC/Kilgore HS
Swaim continues to be a pleasant surprise to the A&M-Commerce
roster. In the 24-7 loss to Tarleton State, Swaim punted the ball
seven times for 294 yards and an average of 42 yards per kick. His
first punt of the game was his longest of the game - a 50-yard
boot. He had one punt downed inside the 20 and another that went
into the endzone for a touchback. For the season, he is averaging
42.4 yards per kick The same average as three-time all-Lone Star
Conference punter Chris Milller, who last kicked for the Lions in
2003.
LSC South Offensive
Michael Benton, Eastern New Mexico, Sr., QB, Everman,
Texas/Everman Joe C. Bean HS
For the second consecutive week, Benton rushed for two touchdowns
and threw for one. His first touchdown, a 32-yard strike to Juston
Campos broke a scoreless tie with two seconds left in the opening
half at Central Oklahoma. In the second half, he broke a 7-all tie
with touchdown runs of 51 and 39 yards. His 243 yards rushing is
the second most in a game in ENMU history. His performance has been
critical in ENMU's 4-0 start
LSC South Defensive
Rod Mosley, Texas A&M-Kingsville, Sr., cornerback, Austin,
Texas/Reagan HS
Mosley intercepted his league best fourth pass with 2:07 left in
the game and returned it 39 yards for a touchdown to clinch the
Javelinas 27-17 win over Southeastern Oklahoma. Mosley had
six tackles, five solo and broke up three other passes from his
cornerback position.
LSC South Special Teams
Stephen Arnold, Tarleton State, So., K, McKinney, Texas/McKinney
HS
Hit a 33-yard field goal with 8:14 in the second quarter to put
the Texans up 17-7. He was also 3-3 in extra points to score
six points in the contest.
