Football: Abilene Christian tops Tarleton State, 70-63

ACU's Bernard Scott

The Lone Star Conference added to its storied 76-year history on Saturday as an array of NCAA Division II, conference and school records were set or tied in addition to several season-high marks.  Abilene Christian and junior running back Bernard Scott led the effort in an incredible 70-63 win over Tarleton State.  The Wildcats handed the Texans their first loss of the year as Scott rushed for an ACU single-game record 283 rushing yards with six touchdowns, which tied the LSC and school single-game marks.
West Texas A&M continued its perfect season with a victory over Angelo State and is in the driver's seat for the South Division and LSC titles.  Texas A&M-Kingsville edged Eastern New Mexico to pick up their first win in the division behind a school-record five touchdowns and a career-high 310 yards from redshirt freshman quarterback David Garza.
Central Oklahoma and Texas A&M-Commerce both recorded wins to move to 3-1 in the North Division.  In crossover action, Midwestern State bested Southeastern Oklahoma as Daniel Polk eclipsed MSU's all-time (7,499 yards) and single-season (2,779) total offense marks with a season-high 369 yards.

Austin.  During the course of the game, Scott became ACU's all-time single-season rusher as he finished his day with 1,365 rushing yards this season, shattering the previous record of 1,211 yards set by Eric Polk in 2001.  Scott scored on runs of 31, 4, 2, 2, 73 and 10 yards.  Scott had 349 yards of total offense as also completed a halfback pass to Edmund Gates for 66 yards, and Scott also had 54 yards receiving on five catches as he accounted for 403 of the Wildcats' 715 yards of total offense.  Scott clinched the game for ACU with a 10-yard run on third-and-7 from the TSU 10-yard line with one minute to play in the contest.
