Football: ACU, WTAMU fall in NCAA Playoffs
Abilene Christian lost in triple-overtime, 76-73, to Chadron State and West Texas A&M was defeated 56-28 by Northwest Missouri State in the second round of the NCAA Division II football playoffs.
ACU held a 49-20 lead to start the fourth quarter before CSC scored 56 points in the fourth quarter and three overtime periods for the win. The Wildcats dominated the first three quarters as Bernard Scott had a school-record 303 rushing yards and five touchdowns and 79 receiving yards with one score.
The loss ends ACU's first 10-win season in 30 years with a 10-3 record.
WTAMU's impressive season ended with four turnovers and a four-touchdown performance by Northwest Missouri State's Xavier Omon. Keith Null completed 36-of-53 passes for 360 yards and a pair of touchdowns, both to Charly Martin.
The Buffs set the team mark for wins in a season with 12 including a third straight Lone Star Conference title.
The Eagles and Bearcats will play for the Southwest Region title in the quarterfinals on Dec. 1 in Chadron, Neb.
