Softball: Four players honored
Four student-athletes earned Lone Star Conference Softball Player of the Week honors for their performances last week, league officials announced today.
LSC SOFTBALL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
LSC North Hitter
Emilee Bounds, University of Central Oklahoma
Sr., Catcher, Yukon, Okla./Yukon
Bounds led UCO to an 8-1 week, including a perfect 7-0 performance
at the LSC Crossover. She hit .519 (14-for-27) for the week,
including a sizzling .565 (13-for-23) in the crossover, hitting
four homers and driving in 13 runs in seven games. Bounds
tied a career high with five RBI in wins over Tarleton State and
Abilene Christian while going 3-for-3 with two RBI in UCO's 14-6
upset of No. 2-ranked Angelo State. She had a .567 on-base
percentage and 1.000 slugging percentage in sparking a UCO offense
that averaged 10.9 runs a game in the crossover.
LSC North Pitcher
Marjorie Johnson, Southeastern Oklahoma State University
Jr., Pitcher, Tulsa, Okla./Bishop Kelley HS
Johnson helped SOSU to a 7-2 record last week, posting a
4-1 record in the circle. She allowed just one hit in 26.2
innings of work, including throwing two no-hitters. Her only
loss was to No. 2 Angelo State. She struck out 55 hitters,
which averages to just over two strieouts per inning pitched.
Additionally, she also picked up a pair of saves.
Co-LSC South Hitter
Kristen Frye, Angelo State University
So., Outfield, Hamlin, Texas/Hamlin HS
Frye hit .611 for the Rambelles as they went 7-2 last
week, including a 5-2 performance at the LSC Crossover Tournament.
Frye hit safely in all eight games she appeared in and is now
riding a nine-game hitting streak, the second longest by a Rambelle
this season. She led ASU with three doubles last week and added a
triple as she boasted a team-best slugging percentage of .889 from
the nine-hole in the lineup. She scored five runs and had one RBI
on the week.
Kaitlyn Witte, West Texas A&M University
Fr., Infield/Pitcher, Midland, Texas/Midland Lee High
School
Witte proved to be a decisive force during the Lady Buffs'
impressive run at the '08 LSC Crossover. The Midland, Texas, native
led the team in hitting with a .440 average, home runs with three
and RBI with 10, in addition to most other offensive categories.
Witte drove in all three runs with a pair of home runs in a 3-2
victory over East Central on Friday and secured another win for WT
with a three-run home run in the top of the eighth inning in a 4-1
win over Midwestern State on Saturday.
LSC South Pitcher
Kari Galm, Angelo State University
Sr., Pitcher, San Antonio, Texas/O'Connor
Galm improved to 19-2 on the season with four wins last week,
including three shutout performances. In the highlight of her week,
Galm retired 20 straight hitters in a 5-0 two-hitter over No. 7
Southeastern Oklahoma at the LSC Crossover Tournament. She also
picked up a shutout over East Central (7-0) during the event with
her third shutout coming on Tuesday in a non-conference meeting
with Incarnate Word (4-0). She also picked up a win in relief
against Cameron at the Crossover Tournament and had a save against
Midwestern State. In 29.2 innings of work, Galm allowed just three
earned runs for an 0.71 ERA. She had 13 strikeouts to just four
walks.
